15 years ago my rescue mutt, Sam, took me out on the trails and taught me how to slow down and to be present in every moment I shared with him. I loved it, eventually taking a leap of faith to quit my job as a downtown Stockbroker and become a Dog Walker. It wasn’t glamorous but I was happy. That journey has led me to the present with a team of walkers by my side and a large group of the most ridiculously adorable pups in all of Vancouver. It isn’t always easy, but when you’re doing what you love can you really call it work?
Sweet Paws is genuinely, completely, absolutely dedicated to personal service. Alysha is our number one contact for clients, handles all scheduling requests and makes sure your pup is loving his or her time with our team. She has been taking care of dogs at Sweet Paws for years, and loves nothing more than to steal away from the storm for a few hours and spend time discovering the world with her own dogs, Emmi and Peanut, and her wonderful husband Jason.
For Ashley, dog walking is not just a career, it’s a way of life. Four years ago she discovered the wonderfully messy world of canine adventures, and was stolen away from her former path of teaching- permanently. She is one of our most dedicated sitters and walkers and is frequently found in the office assisting with that amazing client care we’ve been telling you about. To this day Ashley can’t believe that she gets paid to cuddle puppies. A day off for her looks awfully similar to a day “on”, with a huge hike in the morning, a delicious dinner with her new hubby, and a “small” Netflix binge with her adorable Westie, Gilly.
Jen has recently begun dog walking, and loves the peace and serenity it brings compared to her former position as a barista on bustling Granville Island. Her happiest moments occur when she’s sitting lakeside with her love, or travelling to far-off destinations. Next on the itinerary? Idyllic Iceland or stunning Scotland.
If your greatest passion in life is spending time with animals, you may one day find yourself walking dogs, just as Danielle did. And although her ultimate goal is to become a horseback riding coach, Danielle currently finds her daily dose of happiness by getting out on the trails. Even in her free time she’s usually found– or more so, not found– exploring Lynn Canyon with her wonderful boyfriend Chris, and their adventure-dog, Riley.
A self declared “Plant Geek” and full blown travel-addict, Sarah brightens our team with her hilarity and her tales from adventures past. She can name any plant on the North Shore, and has no lack of love for the wilderness. Her free time is often occupied by camping trips and country concerts, and she loves having workdays that are filled with sloppy kisses, wagging tails, and weekends that are spent with her new husband, Matt, and their two cats, Elsie and Chester.
A deep-rooted dog lover and serenely sweet soul, Terri brings to dogs now what she used to bring to humans as a Social Worker in Alberta; kindness and opportunity. She has been fostering rescue dogs for many years, and loves nothing more than to spend time with them and her husband on a beautiful beach- and she wouldn’t object to that beach being in Greece!
Having been an accountant for years, Sharon realized it was high-time for her to invest in her true passion- the outdoors. She now often walks with Sweet Paws, works part time as a snowshoe/hiking guide, and has minimized her office time to a few days a week. She loves getting out with the dogs, and never forgets a furry face. Her next big adventure is to renovate her home, which is nestled nicely into the North Shore, and couldn’t possibly be anywhere else.
Nicole comes from Nova Scotia and has fallen in love with beautiful British Columbia – who wouldn’t?! She is a true dog lover and believes that being surrounded by nature is important for both her physical and mental wellbeing. Nicole graduated university with a degree in environmental science, so she kind of knows what she’s talking about ☺.
Nicole has been exploring Vancouver’s beaches and trails in her spare time, and also enjoys hanging out with her boyfriend and her kitty ☺.
If our pups had opposable thumbs they would text us all day “We love Curtis, We Love Curtis” and we agree with them! Curtis has a gentle energy that keeps our 4 legged clients tails wagging and our 2 legged clients impressed . He is one of the most experienced walkers on our team and is the calmest and friendliest person you will ever meet.
